At A Glance Snapshots Keyboarding & Basic Word Processing and Exploring Economics What is Ignition Everfi ??? (Keyboarding & Basic Word Processing (1st Quarter Only)) Ignition Everfi - Digital Literacy and Responsibility: (www.everfi.net) Ignition Everfi is an online course that educates students on the "nuts and bolts" of how technology works while placing them in virtual environments to tackle issues surrounding digital citizenship. Ignition Everfi is comprised of seven online modules that cover key concepts around making safe and responsible decisions online. During each module, students apply their learning through a virtual simulation, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of learned digital skills in real-life scenarios. At the end of each module, students will be assessed on the concepts learned. Students are encouraged to take notes on what is being taught during each online module and are welcomed to visit online modules as many times as they would like so that they become more technology savvy and also score well on their online and in-class assessments. Each student should have their account login information written in their agenda and/or Computer Applications notebook. Current Events??? (Exploring Economics Classes) Current Events are on-going assignments during the semester. Every Friday that class is held, students are responsible for giving a very brief presentation about their Current Event and submitting their Current Event for the week, Current Events should be no longer than two week old articles that are Economic, Business, Government and/or Globally related in content. Current Event sheets are always available in the Current Event Tray in the front of the classroom. Students should be sure to complete the entire Current Event sheet, give their presentation, and submit their article (print the article) to receive full credit. (All Classes) Mini Quizzes are 10-question assessments based on the concepts learned in the previous class lesson. If a student is absent on the class day before a Mini Quiz is given, He/she will receive any class notes that they missed during their absence and should make arrangements to makeup their missed Mini Quiz as soon as possible. Makeup quizzes should be completed within 5 days of their return to school. Vocabulary Quest??? (All Classes) How can someone effectively answer a question if they don't understand ALL of what is being asked of them??? A true understanding of vocabulary and terminology is essential for success in any course. Vocabulary list are assigned during each unit that is taught in the class. Students are responsible for writing down their vocabulary terms and definitions in class and studying to prepare for their Vocabulary quizzes (Formal Grade Assessment) during the course of the unit. A Vocabulary Map will be assigned for each vocabulary list. Vocabulary Maps are homework assignments designed to help students utilize critical thinking skills in understanding their vocabulary terms to help them prepare for unit and district assessments. Vocabulary Maps are due to be submitted on the day of the vocabulary quiz and while creating flashcards as an additional studying tool is highly encouraged, flashcards are not required to be submitted. (Exploring Economics Classes) Each student is assigned a journal prompt at the start of every class. Journal prompts typically pertain to the lesson taught during the previous class and are used to help ensure a general understanding of what students should be comprehending in class. Students should be sure to write the entire journal prompt, as it is written on the board, and at least four (4) complete sentences related to the prompt, in order to receive full credit. Notebook Checks & Notebook Quizzes??? (All Classes) Being prepared for class each day is an essential part to a student's success for that course. Students are expected to keep an updated notebook of class notes and handouts for each unit that we are covering in class. Notebook checks and/or Notebook quizzes may be unannounced and may count for an Informal grade (notebook check) or a Formal grade (notebook quiz). A Notebook Quiz is an open note assessment in which students may utilize any and all of their own notes (students may not share notes during assessments). Students are not permitted to return to their lockers to retrieve their notebooks during class time. All students present in class should be prepared for their notebook check or notebook quiz at any time. Computer printed copies of notes are not acceptable for notebook checks/notebook quizzes unless they are given to students by their teacher...me :). What is Edutyping??? (Keyboarding & Basic Word Processing Classes) Edutyping - (www.edutyping.com) Edutyping is an online program that is designed to help improve student typing speed and accuracy. Students are responsible for completing assigned Edutyping lessons prior to the assigned due dates. Edutyping lessons count as Informal Assessments in the PowerSchool grade book. Each student should have their account login information written in their agenda and/or Computer Applications notebook. CNN Student News??? (Exploring Economics Classes) CNN Student News is a ten-minute, commercial-free, daily news program for middle and high school students produced by the journalists and educators at CNN. Students will be responsible for completing the following while viewing the CNN Student News episode: Date aired; Topic/Focus; Notes; and a Summary & Reflection Four (4) CNN Student News assignments will make up and count as one Formal Assessment in PowerSchool (25% for each assignment). |
